Alliance Celebrates the Successes of 2013

In case you missed the Alliance’s Annual Meeting in February, here are the highlights:

  • 280 investors, community partners and strategic allies attended the luncheon at the Chesapeake Conference Center on February 5, which had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
  • Our keynote speaker Larry Pope, the CEO of Smithfield Foods Inc., spoke about the recently completed acquisition by WH Group Ltd. (formerly Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong), highlighting the importance of international business transactions to secure future growth.
  • He also reiterated that the company would maintain its corporate base in Smithfield. "I commit to you that [WH Group Ltd.] is not going to pressure us to go," he said. "This is where we live; this is where we raise our kids.”

We thank our event sponsors: McGuireWoods, The Port of Virginia and ABC13
